Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will also be located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.  

  

More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.

 

 

Responsibilities:       

  • Set the welding equipment according to specification / setting up of welding jobs
  • Perform difficult welding
  • Perform quality checks and check the surface geometry visually and with measurement tools.  When there are critical variations, coordinate corrective measures with the appropriate departments
  • Assist in the organization of teamwork
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement Program     

    

Qualification

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience     

-or-

  • Associate’s Degree in welding technology or similar and 2 years relevant welding experience  

 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Must either currently possess or have the ability to acquire and AWS D1.1 GMAW 4G certification
  • Experience with manual CMT welding
  • Experience welding in a manufacturing setting
  • CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) and spot welding experience a plus
  • Candidates should have extensive GMAW / spot welding sheet metal steel experience
