Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will be also located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.  

 

More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Building of complex tools (press factory)
  • Perform setup operations for special cases (establish tooling and process for non-standard manufacturing case) 
  • Perform setup operations for special cases (establish tooling and process for non-standard manufacturing case) 
    • Perform plant and machinery upgrades for non-standard cases, test parts, new parts and prototypes without plans in some cases
    • If necessary, create complex upgrade plans for non-standard processes. Release process for standardization
  • Identify, analyze, suggest countermeasures, assign and partner with connected areas of expertise to correct issues
  • Perform failure analysis on manufacturing processes
  • Perform failure analysis on the product    
  • Assist in the procurement and construction of new machinery and equipment
  • Assist in approving newly installed apparatus and equipment
    • Conduct initial machine testing and document, communicate, and demonstrate machine problems/defects to suppliers and planning personnel if needed
    • Perform nominal/actual comparison validation in real-time mode
    • If necessary, initiate warranty, create test reports, and create input for inspection
  • Set up machine programming
  • Monitor machinery for optimal performance
    • Set order sequence in the given production program
    • Analyze process data, monitor production flow and buffer levels Initiate process to repair and maintain machinery and order new parts as needed
    • Conduct data analysis on productivity and evaluate
    • Propose remedies in bottleneck situations  
  • Assist in the organization of teamwork
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement Program

 

Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 5 years of relevant manufacturing experience

-or-

 

  • Associate’s Degree in a technical trade (industrial technology, mechatronics, etc.) and 2 years of relevant manufacturing experience

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, metal processing, and data processing
