Manufacturing Engineer/Production Supervisor

Job Summary: 

The Manufacturing Engineer/Production Supervisor creates and documents procedures used to manufacture assemble process, supervise all areas of manufacturing to produce customer assemblies, and direct activities so that products are manufactured on-schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes and researches customer requirements and specifications from purchase order.
  • Confers with Programming and Manufacturing concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Creates manufacturing orders (MOs), noting all sequential processes required to produce a product from raw material into a finished item, as well as
    • the machine type or work center performing each sequential operation;
    • special tooling, skills, or outside processing required;
    • verification operations at the appropriate sequence;
    • key characteristic requirements.
  • Revises planning as needed to address drawing revisions or requests from the customer, Manufacturing, or Quality Assurance.
  • Generates re-work MOs to correct defective parts.
  • Provides problem-solving support to manufacturing personnel.
  • Provides technical support to personnel in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Acts as liaison between Manufacturing and customers in answering questions.
  • Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by General Manager.
  • Develop the manufacturing plan and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Achieve optimum employee levels with least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan.
  • Formulate and recommend manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
  • Direct and monitor production floor and/or department supervisors to accomplish goals of the manufacturing plan, consistent with established manufacturing and safety procedures. Act as liaison between management and department personnel of communications, decisions, policies and all matters that affect their performance, attitudes and results.
  • Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data. 
  • Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production standards. Initiate and coordinate major projects, (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, major repairs, etc.).
  • Train, develop and evaluate staff.  Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.

  • Coordinates and collaborates with other departments of the Company.

  • Anticipates internal and external customer needs, gives high priority to customer satisfaction and service.

Education, Skills and Experience:

Required

  • Strong background in MS Access, CAD software (CATIA, Unigraphics).Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook,
  • Strong background in manufacturing of assemblies.
  • Experience reading blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) data.
  • Working knowledge of Lean principles such as single piece flow, kanban systems, and 5S.
  • Experience of supervising production areas and developing & managing teams.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience in Syteline or equivalent ERP system.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Use of computer keyboard and mouse throughout the work day.
  • Lifting up to 20 pounds. 

Work Environment:

  • Some travel to customer locations may be required. 
  • The Manufacturing Engineer  may be required to enter the machine shop environment at times throughout the work day; this environment may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vapor from coolant, etc. 
  • The Company provides industry standard safety equipment, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required.
  • Safety training is required and provided by the Company in accordance with applicable law, industry standards, and Company policy.
