Under the ownership of Ocean Gold, the Haile Gold Mine of Lancaster County will be the industry’s leader in environmentally sound and safe mining operations through applying proven, modern technology and eco-friendly practices that go beyond regulatory requirements.  Haile Gold Mine was one of America’s first operating gold mines.  After acquiring all necessary permits, the next phase of the project is to begin mining processes.

Mine Geologist

  

Job Summary:  This position is to perform mine geology activities in support of the technical services department 

 

Basic Functions of the Position: 

  • Design and perform blasthole sampling protocol.  Must have consensus of mine operations for implementation of sample methods.
  • Supervise geology technicians for sampling activities and delivery of samples to lab
  • Coordinate with Kershaw Mineral Labs to assure timely delivery of samples to lab and for receiving sample analytical results for use in ore control
  • Perform pit mapping with the objective of improving understanding of ore control
  • Integrate with Mine Engineering to implement ore control system
  • Liaise with Mine Operations to implement ore control system
  • Liaise with process department
  • Integrate ore control with mine production reporting
  • Understanding of Quality Control/Assurance principles and application
  • Promote a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and high performance


 

 

 Requirements

  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Familiarity with mine planning software
  • Familiarity with database software (LIMS/acQuire)
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software (AutoCad/Maptek Vulcan/Aranz LeapFrog)
  • Capabilities of mobile mining equipment
  • Geotechnical aspects of pit slopes
  • Knowledge of calculating equipment requirements
  • Knowledge of calculating stockpiled material volumes
  • Mine dewatering experience a plus
  • BS degree in Geology or similar
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in a mine environment
  • Familiar with MSHA regulations
  • Must possess the ability to apply common sense or logic to a problem solving solution
  • Valid driver’s license

 

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Work is in a mine and outdoor setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, lift, carry, possess manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see. Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
  • Employee will be required to operate common vehicles and small 4x4 roving vehicles in off-road and adverse weather conditions
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in the mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
