Under the ownership of Oceana Gold, the Haile Gold Mine of Lancaster County will be the industry’s leader in environmentally sound and safe mining operations through applying proven, modern technology and eco-friendly practices that go beyond regulatory requirements.  Haile Gold Mine was one of America’s first operating gold mines.  After acquiring all necessary permits, the next phase of the project is to begin mining processes.

Chief Metallurgist

 

 

  

Job Summary:  This position is responsible for process technical services, which may include but are not limited to functions including the lab facility, metallurgy, process control and other engineering functions within the process group.

 

 

 

 

Basic Functions of the Position: 

  • Lead a team of professional and technical staff to maximize operational efficiencies in all areas of process with a focus on safety and environmental stewardship
  • Support and promote an environment of participatory management
  • Ensure the process operates at a high level of technical performance
  • Investigate and implement opportunities to increase competitive advantages and align them with the organization’s overall strategy
  • Ensure metal accounting is timely and accurate
  • Ensure the budgets and forecasts for the Process Department are timely and accurate
  • Ensure regulatory reporting is timely and accurate
  • Other responsibilities and functions as assigned 

 

Requirements:

 

  • BS, or higher level degree, in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other related field.
  • Satisfactory combination of education and experience in the job related functions of this job will be considered as substitute for items listed above.
  • Ten (10) years of metallurgy experience in base and/or precious metals processing is required.
  • Previous experience supervising, enhancing and monitoring a team of technical and engineering staff is preferred.
  • Previous experience developing systems and measures that appropriately assess process and personnel performance is preferred.
  • Satisfactory combination of education and experience in the job related functions of this job will be considered as substitute for items listed above.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English will be essential to ensure interaction with senior management level employees through operating level employees occurs at a high level of confidence.
  • The ability to write and review detailed technical reports is essential.
  • College level mathematics skills are required.
  • Thorough understanding of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements.
  • Detailed knowledge of comminution, flotation, CIL, carbon handling, refining, cyanide destruction and tailing storage unit operations.
  • Detailed knowledge of analytical and metallurgical laboratory operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing systems and analyses.
  • Detailed knowledge of plant process control systems including advanced process control techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of Metallurgical accounting procedures and gold standards protocols.
  • Detailed knowledge of participatory management practices including root cause analysis, SPC and lean manufacturing.
  • Detailed working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs.

 

Physical Demands: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
