Haile Gold Mine
Under the ownership of Oceana Gold the Haile Gold Mine of Lancaster County will be the industry’s leader in environmentally sound and safe mining operations through applying proven, modern technology and eco-friendly practices that go beyond regulatory requirements. Haile Gold Mine was one of America’s first operating gold mines. After acquiring all necessary permits, the next phase of the project is to begin mining processes.
Potential employment opportunities exist for:
Geologist I
Job Summary: Under supervision of a Senior Geologist, completes logging of drill samples, geologic mapping, sampling, and assist in the interpretation of geologic models.
Basic Functions of the Position:

Performs logging of core and reverse circulation drill cuttings

Assists Senior Geologist with the interpretation of geological and mineralogical data (rock type, alteration, and structure), and assay data.

Works with the geology team to construct geologic models and generate cross sections and plan maps
-
Prepares and updates drill hole database, maps of deposits and other exploration records
-
Performs geologic surface mapping
-
Performs rock chip sampling and/or soil surveys.

Prepares samples and paperwork for submission to analytical laboratories

Performs other duties as required
Requirements
-
Knowledge of the principles and practices of geology
-
Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
-
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
-
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
-
Possess good mineral identification and estimation skills
-
Ability to work in adverse weather and terrain conditions
-
Possess a good driving record
-
Education and/or experience equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in Geology discipline with a focus on precious metal occurrences
-
Experience in geotechnical or geological modeling using well known software.

Entry level position but experience in field camp and internships a plus

Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex geological analysis
-
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for meeting the minimum requirement
-
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos
-
Ability to write legibly
-
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
-
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Current driver’s license
Physical Demands:

Work is in a mine and outdoor setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, lift, carry, possess manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see. Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.

Employee will be required to operate common vehicles and small 4x4 roving vehicles in off-road and adverse weather conditions

Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in the mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
