 Under the ownership of Oceana Gold, the Haile Gold Mine of Lancaster County, South Carolina is transforming regional economic development while setting new standards for environmental protection throughout the industry.

 

 

By applying proven, modern technology and eco-friendly practices that go beyond regulatory requirements, millions of dollars are being invested in the community to build the mine and extract its estimated 30.5 million tons at 2.06 g/t for 2 million ounces of gold reserves(1). When all is said and done, more than 800 jobs will be created in an effort to make the Haile Gold Mine the most productive mine of its kind east of the Mississippi River – and the industry’s most environmentally sound operation throughout the United States. Geology Tech I

  

Job Summary:   This is an entry level position that reports to the Geology Tech Supervisor.  The employee must demonstrate the ability to perform in the following areas:

 

 

 

  • PROVIDES DRILL RIGS WITH SAMPLING MATERIALS
  • PICKS UP SAMPLES FROM DRILLS AND THE FIELD CORE CUTTING

 

 

Basic Functions of the Position: 

  • Adhere to HGM policies.
  • Follow all environmental compliance policies and guidelines.
  • Follow MSHA regulations.
  • Read, comprehend and interpret information including, but not limited to, Material Safety Data Sheets, labels on products, warning signs, instruction manuals, written procedures, computer screens, and information on monitors and equipment readouts.
  • Inform supervision of any hazardous situations and correct if possible.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings and actively participate in field level risk assessments and monthly safety focus.
  • Follow established Exploration sampling procedures.
  • Operate mobile equipment including forklifts, pickup trucks, skid steer and ATV/UTV.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and examinations of equipment and work areas
  • Retrieve drill samples in an orderly fashion.
  • Keep samples in order as required by procedure.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Operate core cutting electric saw, hand tools, hammer, shovels, broom and scrapers.
  • Lifting up to 50-pound core samples or RC bags using proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to communicate with drillers and geologists.
  • Assists with down-hole surveys and drill rig set-up.
  • Helps with collecting surface samples at the mine or on exploration prospects.

 Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Applicable workplace experience shall be considered as acceptable substitute.
  • Previous related experience shall be considered.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
    Work around power tools.
  • Drive mobile equipment.
  • Be able to perform basic math, such as adding and subtracting.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands:

 

  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
  • Wear personal protective equipment designated for the work area and task, including safety-toe shoes, safety glasses, respirator, rain gear, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, hard hat, and any other equipment required for safe performance of duties.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds when required.
  • Repetitively lift up to 35 pounds for a period of up to 10 hours per day, using the safest lifting techniques for various tasks.
  • Stand at one station for up to 10 hours per day.
  • Maneuver fingers, hands, wrists and arms continuously up to 10 hours per day.
  • Work in an outdoor environment.
  • Walk and stand on uneven and wet surfaces for extended periods of time (entire shift).
