Under the ownership of Oceana Gold, the Haile Gold Mine of Lancaster County, South Carolina is transforming regional economic development while setting new standards for environmental protection throughout the industry.

By applying proven, modern technology and eco-friendly practices that go beyond regulatory requirements, millions of dollars are being invested in the community to build the mine and extract its estimated 30.5 million tonnes at 2.06 g/t for 2 million ounces of gold reserves(1). When all is said and done, more than 800 jobs will be created in an effort to make the Haile Gold Mine the most productive mine of its kind east of the Mississippi River – and the industry’s most environmentally sound operation throughout the United States. Process Operations Technician 

 

 

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Process Operations Technicians report to either a Shift Supervisor or the Water Management Supervisor.  These positions are hands-on field positions responsible for the safe and efficient operation of process equipment and systems.  Technicians will perform a wide variety of job functions in multiple areas within the process plant and/or water management areas (including tailing storage facility).  

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs all duties with a focus on safety, environmental stewardship and best operating practices.
  • Actively participates in Safety, Health, and Environmental initiatives.
  • Operates process equipment and systems according to standard operating procedures and / or directed work instructions from the supervisor.
  • Must show competency in operating fixed and mobile equipment.
  • Seeks to continuously improve work environment.
  • Must be able to assess, diagnose and remedy operating variances in a safe and timely manner.
  • Performs routine maintenance and will participate in major equipment repairs.
  • Other responsibilities may be added as necessary for the successful operation of Haile Gold Mine.  

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of industrial treatment processes is beneficial. Comfortable working with computers is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of process control systems is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software is beneficial.
  • Proven commitment to behavioral based safety culture.
  • Able to assess problems and make sound recommendations for solutions.
  • Able to work within a team and work well with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively implement change.
  • High school diploma / equivalent or higher education.
  • Prior experience in an industrial operation is beneficial. 
  • Prior Water Treatment experience or Water Certification is beneficial.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, clearly communicate, hear, and visually inspect equipment and work areas.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Work is in a surface mineral processing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, fall protection equipment, gloves and any other protective equipment, as required.
  • Haile Gold Mine promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing.
