Forklift Driver


Job Purpose and Summary: Job responsibilities include but not limited to, keep sorting tables filled, take any, and all prep material containers to the dome, remove and empty scrap/garbage bins, organize product containers in an organized and safe manor, load and unload inbound and outbound trucks, when required, converse with truck drivers to ensure the correct load is being delivered, operate forklift in a safe and professional manor and other duties as required.

Specific Functions of the Job:
  • Maintain Sorting by taking empty plate laser pallets back the shelf, take full plate laser pallets to sorting, any containers with a green sticker go to the dome, orange stickered containers go to secondary, any containers that require machining or plating go to shipping, take full scrap bins out to the yard for Peter to dump, bring in empty scrap bins. 
  • Maintain secondary by taking all green stickered containers to the dome, load containers for all secondary stations, organize the holding areas with secondary prep material, bring in empty containers upon request. 
  • Maintain tube laser by taking any green stickered containers to the dome, orange stickered containers go to secondary, bring in empty containers for the operators upon request, keep the scrap bins maintained. 
  • Maintain the saw area by taking any containers with a green sticker to the dome, bring in empty containers upon requests, orange stickers go to secondary. 
  • Maintain the shipping pad by keeping prep bins stocked by the saw bay door. 
  • Keep the dome organized, Separate the material by weld shop. 
  • When shipping material, make sure to scan any and all barcodes, place the containers on the shipping pad, so Peter can load the trucks. 
  • Plate material needs to be brought in after a shipment of plate has dropped off. Material needs to be kept dry and stacked as soon as possible. 
  • Load and unload inbound and outbound trucks 
  • Converse with truck drivers, making sure they have the proper documentation for the load they are picking up, if not applicable consult supervisor. 
  • Operate forklift in safe and efficient manor 
  • Conduct pre-start inspections on forklift prior to start of the shift. 
  • Must be able to pass forklift training through internal training. 
  • Maintain safe work practices, which includes the use of a seatbelt, and turning the unit off when one gets off the lift truck. 
  • Assist in training & mentoring newer employees 
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment i.e. work station, lunchroom etc. 
  • Present a professional image of Custom Steel Supply, and a personal commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all employees. 
  • Participate in continuous improvements, 5S and 8 Waste initiatives, including and not limited to processes, production flow etc. 
  • Report any hazards to the Supervisor or lead hand immediately so corrective action can be taken. 
  • Support the Health & Safety Program 
  • Practice safe and proper use of machinery and tools 
  • Perform all other duties as required

Qualifications:
Minimum Experience, Abilities Required:
  • 1+ year forklift experience with shipping containers an asset 
  • Certified through written and practical testing 
  • Must possess good vision and hearing 
  • Must have good organizational skills 
  • Hand eye coordination 
  • Physically capable of lifting in excess of 40lbs 
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time 
  • Must have steel toe boots 
  • Must have reliable transportation 
  • Must be able to work any 3 shifts and overtime when needed
