The Department of Public Works and Facilities currently has one vacancy for a Supervising Utility Service Worker. This position is critical to the Utilities Division and directs the daily operations of the Electrical Repair crew. This crew executes complex and difficult projects that require maintenance, inspections, rebuild and repair pumps and electrical motors. In addition, this position acts as the front line supervisor and technical lead for the crews that install, rehabilitate, and repair / replace water and wastewater collection and water distribution systems and alarms. Duties include oversight of assigned staff, ensuring work is done in a safe and efficient manner, training for new hires, and being a technical resource in areas related to electrical controls and alarms for sanitary sewer and water systems. Position also requires response to customer service calls, alarms from monitoring stations, and pipeline failures requiring immediate repair during work hours as well as after hours.

To plan, organize, direct and supervise utility maintenance operations within the Utility Services Section of the Special Districts Division of the Facility Services Department; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Supervisor level recognizes positions that perform full, first-line supervisory responsibilities including planning, assigning and evaluating the work of subordinates and is responsible for a program area within a work unit or department.
Receives general direction from a Utility Operations Supervisor.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned maintenance and technical personnel.

Experience: Six years of increasingly responsible experience in utility maintenance involving construction and maintenance of pipelines and repair of pumps and motors, including two years performing duties similar to those of a Senior Utility Worker in Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in wastewater collection systems, water distribution systems or a related field.

Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list.
