Client Services Assistants provide direct care and supervision to clients in learning and applying daily living skills and are a key and critical part of service delivery by assisting professional staff with ensuring treatment plans are carried out. Client Services Assistant assignments with Placer County vary in terms of the nature of services provided and the population served.

SERVICE/ASSIGNMENT PREFERENCE(S)

Residential Care – Children’s Emergency Shelter

The role of the Client Service Assistant when assigned to the Children’s Emergency Shelter is to provide direct supervision and care of children residing in the custody of Placer County. This includes: overseeing residents' daily routine, providing a positive living environment including activities, meal preparation, assistance with hygiene, transportation to medical, court or other appointments, medication distribution; answering phones, interacting and working with children, parents, staff and other professionals involved in the residents' lives, documentation, cleaning, and answering a 24 hours Child Protective Services crisis line. Shifts may be scheduled or on-call. Available shifts include weekends, early mornings, evenings, overnight and including county holidays. (Please note that this position does not involve therapeutic counseling or case management.)

Transport

The role of Client Services Assistant in the Adult System of Care is to transport mental health/behavioral health clients from home or residential facilities to and from medical appointments, and to court. Staff must have the ability to communicate well with clients who are severely mentally ill as well as with the client’s care providers at residential facilities, hospitals, or care centers. The Client Services Assistant may also be required to take notes at medical appointments, assist clients with making future appointments, and keep the public guardian deputies informed of updates to the client’s care.

Court Supervised Visitation

The role of the Client Services Assistant when assigned to the Visitation Unit is to provide direct supervision for court ordered visits to families. This includes: transportation of children to and from their placements to county designated visitation areas, close supervision of interactions between the parents and children, documentation, ability to set limits and boundaries with families during visits, ability to terminate visits when it's in the best interest of the child, interacting and working with parents, children, foster care providers and social workers.

Welcome Center

The Client Services Assistants assigned to the Welcome Center are responsible for providing direct assistance to individuals in securing housing, food, jobs, or any other resource to improve daily living conditions. Staff accomplishes these goals by providing a safe and supportive learning environment. Staff may be called upon to do psycho-educational groups, transporting clients, and attending community events to educate the public regarding County mental health services and resources. This population requires that staff possess public service skills and a genuine desire to engage those who are seeking services.
