To plan, organize, direct and supervise tree maintenance operations within the Road Division of the Public Works Department; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Supervisor level recognizes positions that perform full, first-line supervisory responsibilities including planning, assigning and evaluating the work of subordinates and are responsible for a program area within a work unit or department.
Receives general direction from Senior Tree Maintenance Supervisor.
Exercises direct supervision over assigned maintenance and technical personnel.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Participate in and perform tree climbing, trimming and felling activities requiring high skill and independent judgment; determine amount of trimming or removal necessary; trim and clear brush and operate truck or spray rig.

Obtain permission from property owners concerning tree trimming and removal and brush clearing.

Determine traffic control procedures necessary to protect tree trimming crew and allow for safe automotive and pedestrian traffic flow.

Recommend and assist in the implementation of unit goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for tree maintenance and herbicide spraying operations; implement policies and procedures.

Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff involved in tree maintenance.
Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.

Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for personnel, supplies and equipment; monitor and control expenditure.

Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; recommend discipline; implement discipline procedures as directed.

Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience performing duties similar to those of a Senior Tree Trimmer in Placer County.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college course work in agricultural husbandry, arboriculture, or a related field.
Required License or Certificate:

Possession of Qualified Applicator Certificate from California Department of Food and Agriculture is desirable.

Possession of a valid Class B driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements. Hazardous materials endorsement may be required depending upon the position.

May need to possess a valid Class A driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements as required depending upon the position.

Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
