The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department
of Health and Human Services are announcing a recruitment for the position
of Certified Nurse Midwife, Bilingual – Spanish/English (Per Diem – Extra
Hire) in the Division of Public Health, Women’s Health Services.
THE POSITION: Extra
hire vacancies in Women’s Health Services for per diem shift coverage during
vacations, holidays, sick leave, short staff, and/or retirements.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE:
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be notified to contact
the Health and Human Services Department for a selection interview in the
order their applications are received by the Human Resources Department.
DUTIES:
Duties include but are not limited to, in both Spanish and English:

Takes patients' medical,
social and obstetric history; performs physical, vaginal, self-breast,
clinical pelvimetry and general health status exams; orders and/or
performs approved laboratory and diagnostic exams, consulting with and/or
referring complications to a physician.

Orders medications per
midwifery protocols; documents care rendered in patient chart; performs
chart review and evaluates patient progress; consults with other members
of the health care team to develop and manage care and follow-up plans.

Independently manages and
delivers low-risk patients, particularly those who are Spanish/English
speaking; assumes co-management of high-risk women when appropriate and
manages complications and emergencies until physician arrives; assesses
immediate and ongoing status of labor, well-being of patient and fetus and
normalcy of progress.

Initiates and carries out
midwifery and medical interventions, such as but not limited to amniotomy,
IUPC insertion, fetal scalp electrode application, catheterization, IV
fluid administration, episiotomy, anesthesia and medications; supports
patients during labor.

Assists physicians with
operative deliveries as required.

Performs initial assessment
of newborn status; assists in promoting establishment of airway and
maintenance of body temperature; begins resuscitation efforts in the
absence of a physician.

Manages postpartum care
particularly for clients and families who are Spanish/English speaking;
writes postpartum orders as indicated; provides guidance, assistance and
referrals to community medical and social agencies and resources; signs
birth certificates.

Provides telephone triage
and consultation to patients; participates in prenatal and postpartum
patient education.

May participate in evidence
collection as part of the Sexual Assault Team while on call.

May act as first assist for
C sections.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Any combination of education and experience that
would provide the knowledge and skills listed below. Typically, equivalent
to graduation from a Board-approved program in Nurse-Midwifery or equivalent
that is satisfactory to the Board of Registered Nursing; and one year of
recent full-time clinical nursing experience. Demonstrated oral and written
proficiency in English and Spanish.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid California Registered
Nursing license. Possession of a valid certificate as a Nurse-Midwife issued
by the American College of Nurse Midwives and by the California Board of
Registered Nursing; possession of a current Furnishing Number issued by this
Board is desirable. Possession of a current CPR certificate.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful candidates are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff’s
Department prior to appointment and H&HS credentials check. |
