YOU'RE INVITED TO APPLY: The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services are announcing a recruitment for the position of Mental Health Registered Nurse, Part Time (Per Diem – Extra Hire). The current part time vacancies are in the Division of Community Mental Health, Psychiatric Emergency Services, 250 Bon Air Road, Greenbrae. *Shift/Per Diem differential paid for certain assignments.

THE POSITION: Extra hire vacancies in the Division of Community Mental Health Services for per diem shift coverage during vacations, holidays, sick leave, short staff, and/or retirements.

WORK SCHEDULE: Must be available for all shifts - part time hours.

TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE: Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be notified to contact the Health and Human Services Department for a selection interview in the order their applications are received by the Human Resources Department.

DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs crisis intervention and other psychosocial rehabilitation services.

  • Interviews, observes and examines clients; makes psychosocial and nursing assessments, determines treatment objectives and initiates appropriate actions; participates in the application of physical or chemical restraints as required.

  • Prepares case histories and treatment plans, in consultation with physicians, psychiatrists and other health care team members; assists patient in cooperating with own treatment.

  • Participates in individual, group and family psychotherapy.

  • Provides skilled nursing care; dispenses, administers and monitors medications for clients as needed and performs other procedures in accordance with standardized procedures and appropriate regulations.

  • Provides consultation, education and information to clients, families, support networks, community and other agencies.

  • Participates in staff meetings, client and program conferences, staff development and professional growth activities.

  • Documents assessments, treatments and other patient medical information.

  • May assist in training and provide lead direction to subordinate staff.

  • May plan, coordinate and participate in special programs/projects.

  • Performs a medical screening examination and triage on admission to PES to identify emergent medical conditions.

  • Ensures appropriate treatment for all identified medical conditions.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Equivalent to two years of professional nursing experience, at least one year of which has been in a mental health setting.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse license and possession of a current CPR certificate, at least at the level of BLS for Healthcare Provider.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE: Work experience with seriously mentally ill clients in an inpatient hospital setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidates are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff’s Department prior to appointment and H&HS credentials check.
