The Marin County Human Resources Department and District Attorney’s Office
are announcing a recruitment for the position of District Attorney Inspector
to perform criminal investigative work, evaluate evidence for court
presentation, provide investigative assistance to local police agencies, and
perform related work as required. The eligible list established from this
recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future openings
that may occur. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six (6)
months.
TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE:
Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination
process may consist of a supplemental application screening, written
examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination
to determine which candidates’ names will be placed on the eligible list.

DUTIES: Duties may
include but are not limited to the following:

Investigates felony and
misdemeanor crimes within the jurisdiction of the District Attorney’s
Office and may conduct other investigations;
-
Interviews suspects,
victims and witnesses;
-
Collects, evaluates, and
analyzes various forms of evidence, including statements and depositions;
-
Obtains fingerprints and
photographs;
-
Prepares diagrams and
sketches for presentation in court by an attorney;
-
Prepares oral and written
reports;
-
May prepare and execute
search warrants and warrants of arrest.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS): Equivalent to high school graduation and
three years of full time criminal investigative experience in law
enforcement agencies that demonstrate possession of the listed knowledge and
abilities. Special training in criminal investigation may substitute for up
to one year of required experience or college education in police science,
criminal justice, criminology, or a closely related field may substitute for
up to one year of the required experience on a basis of two years of
education (60 semester or 90 quarter units) for one year of experience.
Knowledge of:
Considerable knowledge of modern criminal investigative techniques and
procedures; methods and techniques of screening, evaluating, preparing, and
preserving evidence and exhibits for trial; laws of arrest, search and
seizure, rights of citizens, rules of evidence, court procedures and rules
of discovery; criminal modus operandi, ballistics, and criminal laboratory
techniques; use and care of firearms; the following California codes: Civil,
Business and Professions, Health and Safety, Penal, Vehicle, and Welfare and
Institutions; knowledge of criminal and civil prosecution procedures.
Ability to:
Distinguish between criminal and civil prosecution; obtain information
through interview, interrogation, and observation; perform consumer fraud
investigations; provide accurate court testimony; prepare concise written
and oral reports; speak effectively; dictate correspondence; analyze,
correlate, and evaluate information; take photographs and latent
fingerprints; prepare and execute search warrants and arrest warrants.
CERTIFICATE:
Successful completion of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and
Training (POST) Regular Basic Course, or the equivalent as determined and
certified by POST. Individuals appointed are required to complete an 80-hour
investigation and trial preparation module within the first 12 months of
employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Eyesight corrected to no worse than 20/30 vision. Ability to perform normal
law enforcement functions, to include arrests, searches, and seizures.
DRIVER’S LICENSE:
Ability to drive is an essential function for this assignment. Successful
candidates must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license and
submit a satisfactory driving history (within the last six months) obtained
from the DMV at the selection interview.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must not have been convicted of any crime for which the punishment could
have been imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or state prison, or any
crimes which would prohibit employment in this position under state law.
Shall be subject to a thorough background investigation. Position required
to be on call at all hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in office settings and in the field. Investigations may
require incumbents to work alone at night and in high crime areas, maintain
confidentiality of information and documents related to cases. |
