EXTRA-HIRE OPPORTUNITY

Mental Health Practitioner/Licensed Mental Health Practitioner

Health & Human Services

The Marin County Health & Human Services department has a full-time extra-hire position within Mental Health and Substance Use Services. 

If you believe you meet the minimum qualifications for the Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) or Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) (job classification link), have experience in assessment, diagnosis and/or case management with severely mentally ill folks, and are interested in obtaining additional information please contact the supervisor of the program you are interested in. Please note that while these positions are therapeutic and require training, education, experience and a license (or license eligible) in the mental health field, these positions will not be providing psychotherapy or individual counseling.

The extra-hire assignments available are: 

Odyssey Team: The MHP/ LMHP will provide intensive case management services to adults who have chronic and persistent mental illness and who are homeless. The candidate will need to be comfortable in providing field-based case management services. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team which supports recovery and self-sufficiency. EXTRA-HIRE OPPORTUNITY

Mental Health Registered Nurse

Psychiatric Emergency Services

The Marin County Health & Human Services Department is seeking Mental Health Registered Nurses interested in extra hire positions who have previous experience working in a mental health setting. The RN will function as the registered nurse on duty at Marin County Psychiatric Emergency Services. In this role the nurse will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including crisis specialists and a psychiatrist. The nurse will also work in cooperation with community partners. The nurse will perform nursing assessments and screen for urgent or emergent medical issues to determine appropriate level of treatment based on assessment findings. The nurse will administer medication, including I.M. medication, and will monitor for efficacy as well as adverse effects. The RN will participate in the application of physical restraints as required and will make use of crisis intervention skills and utilize management of assaultive behavioral techniques. 

The ideal candidate will have work experience in a mental health setting, working with a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate will have strong nursing assessment skills and be comfortable screening for medical and substance abuse issues with somewhat limited supervision. The candidate must be comfortable administering P.O. and I.M. medication, and be familiar with effects of medication, especially psychotropic medications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of professional nursing experience OR successful completion of a 6-month mental health preceptorship. Work experience must be in a mental health setting appropriate to the assignment. Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse's license and possession of a current CPR certificate at least at the level of BLS for Healthcare Provider.

   EXTRA-HIRE OPPORTUNITY

Detention Nurse Adult or Family Practitioner

Marin County Jail

 Please note this position works with adult incarcerated inmates and may work eight (8) up to thirty-two (32) hours per week depending on staffing needs. 

The work week is Monday through Friday and the shift is typically 8 am to 4 pm. 

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: Successful applicants will be subject to a thorough and rigorous background investigation which may include, but is not limited to, a criminal records check, interviews with friends, relatives, neighbors and employers verification of DMV records and overall employment and education history.  An applicant may be disqualified for past criminal convictions, poor driving record, providing false background information, and other reasons.

DRUG USE STANDARDS:  No use of any illegal drug in the past three years. No felony drug use (e.g. cocaine, amphetamines, etc.)  in the past five years.  No hallucinogenics ever.  No intravenous drug use or drug sales ever. Applicants successful in testing will be given a polygraph examination and/or computerized voice stress analysis and will be asked about illegal drug use.
