Nature of Work

The Assistant Chief provides management and supervisory oversight in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating manpower, supervising personnel, performing administrative duties, monitoring legal compliance, establishing and maintaining policies and procedures, maintaining law enforcement expertise, interacting with the public and other agencies, and assisting with the operational budget.  Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by observation and by review of records and reports by the Sheriff and the Chief Deputy. 

Minimum Qualifications

Eight years of supervisory/management law enforcement experience including at least one year of experience at the rank of Deputy Sheriff Major or above in a jurisdiction comparable to or larger than Montgomery County.  A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or a closely related field can substitute for four years of the qualifying experience.

Kind of Examination

The Montgomery City-County Personnel Department will establish an employment register to fill one vacancy in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Since there are five or less qualified applicants, applicants will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in random order as generated from a computer-based random ordering system.
