Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this class exists is to protect property, visitors, and employees while enforcing the security rules and regulations.  Primary work responsibilities may include: patrolling buildings, structures, and/or grounds; utilizing surveillance equipment to observe staff, patrons, and other visitors; investigating and taking appropriate action when alarms are activated or unusual situations occur; completing and submitting work orders; and interacting with patrons, visitors, and staff members.  Employee works under the direction of the Zoo Security Supervisor or Museum Chief Security Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six months experience in security work, protecting persons and property.

 

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles for Zoo positions.  Must submit to a background check due to the nature of the position. Must obtain an Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board ‘Responsible Vendor’ certification within six months of employment for Museum positions. Work will include rotating shift work, nights, weekends, and holidays. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to walk, stand, and remain alert for the duration of the assigned shift as needed to perform security duties and patrol assigned areas. Must be able to climb stairs and a ladder at a height of 14 feet as needed to perform inspection of interior and exterior of facility. Must be willing to work outside as needed to perform security duties. 

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If there are more than five qualified applicants, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank the applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
