Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, supervise, and document the fee collection, maintenance, repair, and installation activities of Parking Meter Division of Parking Management.  Primary work responsibilities may include: supervising two or more full-time employees; planning, assigning, and scheduling work; training and advising subordinates in maintenance and repair techniques; maintaining accurate records; overseeing ordering of equipment and materials; performing fee collection and processing duties; and performing maintenance, repair, and installation duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Real Property Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and three years of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and fee collection of parking meter, to include one year of experience as a lead worker.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and an insurable driving record as needed to operate city vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements to include extreme heat, cold, rain, and lightning. Work is performed in uncontrolled work environments, including but not limited to, work zones and in close proximity to heavy traffic.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Parking Management Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If there are more than five qualified applicants, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank the applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
