Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform semi-skilled work in the collection of parking fees as well as the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electronic parking meters.  Primary work responsibilities may include: manually collecting and transporting parking meter fees; assisting in processing collected parking meter fees; assisting in documenting collected parking meter fees; maintaining parking meters; assisting in repairing parking meters; assisting in installing parking meters; and performing additional duties in service to the department.  Through on-the-job training, the Parking Management Worker I performs progressively responsible and skilled work.  The Parking Management Worker I is distinguished from the Parking Management Worker II in that the Parking Management Worker II serves as the division contact, scheduler, and supervisor in the absence of the Parking Management Supervisor.  Supervision is received from the Parking Management Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six months of experience in the repair and/or maintenance of mechanical or digital devices and equipment. 

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record as needed to operate city vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements to include extreme heat, cold, rain, and lightning. Work is performed in uncontrolled work environments, including but not limited to, work zones and in close proximity to heavy traffic.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:  Physical ability to walk, bend, stoop, crouch, squat, and kneel for extended periods of time as needed for the collection of meter fees and the maintenance and installation of meters. Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull coins and equipment weighing up to 70lbs.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Parking Management Department.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and willingness/supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and willingness/supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
