Nature of Work

This is specialized law enforcement work providing protection for civilian aviation passengers, visitors, aircraft and facilities. Work involves the specialized security requirements of airport traffic direction, arrest, and detention of persons suspected of violating local, state, or federal laws or regulations, participation in search procedures or implementation of bomb threat plan, vehicular patrol, and participation in training sessions on airport security related subjects. Reports to Airport Police Corporal, Airport Police Sergeant, and Airport Police Chief.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be currently certified as a Police Officer by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC). Applicants must provide necessary documentation indicating they are currently POST certified in law enforcement in order to be placed on the eligible register. Must possess and maintain a current Alabama driver's license. Must be willing to work nights, shifts, and weekends. Must submit to a 5-year employment background check to satisfy Federal Aviation Administration requirements. Must be certified by a licensed physician to be in good health and physically fit for the performance of duties.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill current vacancies and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the Montgomery Regional Airport. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on education and experience as shown on the application and minimally qualifying supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. Applicants will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
