Museum Curator I (Artworks Educator)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the daily operations of the Museum’s ARTWORKS interactive gallery.  The ARTWORKS Educator designs and maintains exhibits; facilitates exploratory learning; plans, organizes, and directs educational programs; participates in tours with the guidance of the Curator III; and ensures the best visitor experiences. This is professional museum work requiring the independent application of basic communication techniques used in mid-size museum programs. The essential functions are: maintains the interactive ARTWORKS gallery; develops and coordinates educational programs for young learners; and accepts additional assignments and performs administrative duties and referred tasks.  The ARTWORKS Educator reports to the Museum Curator III, Curator of Education.   

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a four-year college or university and at least one year of experience in Museum or Education related professional work.

Special Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works various hours and days based on need to include evenings and weekends.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
