Bridge and Building Inspector Technician (#CO0630)

Nature of Work

This is professional engineering and technical work associated with the County Building Permit Program, enforcing the federal mandated monitoring of construction in the flood and non-flood prone areas of Montgomery County under the Standard Building Code and FEMA Flood Insurance regulations and the coordination, planning, development, location, design, construction, and maintenance of highways, bridges, and utilities associated with the County infrastructure.  Supervision is exercised over technical and other personnel engaged in highway and civil engineering activities and the regulation of utilities along the County’s right-of-way. Work is performed with considerable independence but is reviewed for conformance with established policies and procedures by the County Engineer or the Assistant County Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in highway bridge and building construction.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

Must be certified by the State of Alabama as a Certified Bridge Inspector or be willing to obtain the certification within six months after hire.  Must be willing to work overtime, occasionally on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.  Must be willing to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license and an insurable driver record in order to drive a County vehicle.  Must be able to pass the certification requirements for Flood Plain Manager in accordance with FEMA regulations within six months after hire.
