Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this class exists is to provide psychological services including diagnostic testing, evaluation, treatment and referral of clients of the Montgomery County Juvenile Court.  Essential functions include: evaluating and documenting the mental and emotional status of adults, children and adolescents; providing treatment and referrals; and coordinating psychological services with other social, medical and legal agencies.   Work is performed under the supervision of the Court Therapist II and in coordination with the Detention Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Psychology or closely related field.   Must have one year of supervised experience in counseling, including interviewing, testing and diagnosing individuals to evaluate their social, mental and behavioral pathology or assets.  Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the juvenile justice system and/or those applicants who are currently licensed by the State of Alabama as a Professional Counselor or Psychological Technician.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
  

Special Requirements

Must be available to respond to emergencies at night, on weekends and holidays as needed.  Must be willing to work in a maximum security detention facility.
