The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to manage a shift of Juvenile Detention Officers who
are responsible for the care, custody and control of children in a secure
detention facility. Major work responsibilities include performing crisis
management; counsels detainees and staff; supervising two or more full-time
employees; performing administrative duties; conducting and coordinating
in-service training; and contributing to department objectives by assisting
co-workers, accepting additional assignments and performing related tasks.
Employee reports to the Juvenile Detention Director and the Assistant Juvenile
Detention Director.
Must have four (4) years of experience
working with at risk juveniles.
Education from a recognized college or university with a major or minor
in Criminal or Juvenile Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or closely
related field and 2 (two) years of experience will substitute for experience on
a year for year basis.
NOTE: Preference will be given to
applicants with at least one year of supervisory experience.
NOTE: Qualifying education training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Employee is required to work shifts which
include weekends and holidays and is subject to on call responsibility. Must
have sufficient strength and flexibility to physically subdue a juvenile in a
volatile, possibly dangerous situation. Willingness to attend workshops and
training sessions.
