Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform complex professional level appraisal duties all types of real estate in order to determine the values for ad valorem tax purposes.  Complex appraisal work specifically involves conducting commercial income property appraisals on properties such as apartment complexes, malls, and large manufacturing entities.  The primary work responsibilities include: serving as a lead Appraiser for the division; serving as department expert in both informal and formal taxpayer appeals; conducting field inspections on various types of real estate and property; and performing real estate and property appraisal on complex residential, commercial, and industrial properties.  The Appraiser III classification is distinguished from the Appraiser II classification in that the Appraiser IIIs perform highly complex appraisal work and serve as principle experts and lead appraisers for the Appraisal Division.  The Appraiser III exercises considerable independent judgment in the performance of duties and works under the general direction of the Chief Appraiser. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience in the appraisal of real and/or personal property to determine fair market value.  Must have and maintain the designation of an Alabama Certified Appraiser or a certification from another state.          

 

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.
