Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide professional level Museum Education work in planning, organizing, and leading docent training and educational programs for adult audiences at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.  This is professional Museum Education work.  Current adult program offerings include lectures and gallery talks, short courses, a monthly book club, films, panel discussions and symposia, college programs, and senior citizen programs.  Docents at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts currently see two public school grade levels on tours each year, offer many other tours, and play an active role in the Museum’s public programs such as Family Days.  Assistant Curator of Education (Docent and Adult Programs) works with Assistant Curator of Education (Youth, Family and Studio Programs), and the Outreach Coordinator to design tour curricula, teacher workshops, and teen programming at the Museum.  The employee will work to broaden the impact of the Museum on the community and diverse audiences.  Reports to the Curator of Education (Museum III.)

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Art History, Museum Studies, Art Education, Design, or Studio Art, and two years of experience in professional art museum, non-profit, or school. Museum Education preferred.  Fluency in art history preferred.  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.


Special Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to work long evenings and weekends.
