Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to direct a wide variety of recreational activities at an assigned community center.  While these programs are developed in accordance with established general principles and will normally include certain basic activities, employees exercise judgment and initiative in adapting and planning programs within this general outline to the interests and needs of the particular group served. Employees in this class may oversee the activities of other employees in the recreational program assigned to his/her area. The work responsibilities are: plans and organizes recreational activities; assists with the general operation of the Community Center and evaluates community center programs for municipal recreation. Serves as acting director in the absence of the director.  Employees in this class are supervised by the Community Center Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or a related field or two years of college and two years of experience working in organized recreational programs.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered

Special Requirements

Must be able to work evenings and weekends, attend clinic and/or special events.  Must be able to obtain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification through the Red Cross.  Ability to work evenings and weekends in order to direct and supervise recreation activities.
