Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this position exists is
to manage the Electronic Systems Division operations and provide technical
oversight and management in the construction, operation, maintenance and
testing of communications network infrastructure and equipment. The employee is responsible for supervising
the operation and maintenance of all radio transmitting and receiving equipment
used by city agencies and the Montgomery Metro Communications Cooperative
District. Work is performed under
general administrative supervision, but the employee is responsible for the
satisfactory operation and management of all aspects of the City’s
communication’s assets. Most assignments
and priorities are determined by the employee on the basis of trouble reports
from person using the equipment, inspections by the employee or his assistants,
or project management objectives. Supervision
is exercised over all Electronic Systems Division employees. This position reports to the Emergency Management Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Must
have an Associate’s Degree in Electronics or a related field and five (5) years
of recent progressively responsible experience in the installation, repair and
maintenance of a wide variety of both system and subscriber two-way radio
equipment including the use of PC based software to troubleshoot, program and
analyze the equipment. Must have at
least two (2) years of supervisory experience to include supervising Electronic
Systems employees, and/or planning and leading communications projects, and
contract negotiation and/or administration. Experience may
be substituted for education on a year for year basis. An EDACS System Administration Certification
is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in trunk radio installations, repair and maintenance.
NOTE: Qualifying education,
training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and
abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements
Must
be willing to be on-call on a rotational basis for emergencies. Must submit to a background check. Must obtain a State of Alabama driver’s
license to operate city vehicles upon hire.
