Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise and perform surveying work in the field and office.  Employees in this class perform skilled, technical survey work in the field including serving as lead over less skilled assistants. The Work Responsibilities are: supervises two or more full-time employees; directs the day-to-day activities of a survey crew and performs skilled surveying engineering work for construction and public works projects.  Familiar assignments are received with general instructions while new work is performed under supervision of the Survey Crew Coordinator.  Distinguishing Characteristics:   Positions in this classification are normally filled by advancement from the lower classification of Engineering Technician I, or when filled from the outside, requires prior para-professional engineering experience in surveying.  Incumbent of this classification works within a framework of established procedures and is expected to perform all the duties assigned to the position with only occasional instructions or assistance.  The Engineering Technician II is distinguished from the Engineering Technician III by the latter’s increased complexity of assignments, decision-making responsibility and level of supervision received and exercised.  

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D equivalence.  Must have at least three years of experience in technical surveying work including some experience as a supervisor or lead worker.  
 
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.


Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License and insurable driving record as needed to operate a city vehicle to travel to various work sites.
