Landfill Attendant (#CI2008)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to weigh and inspect refuse brought to the landfill by private operators, collect fees and perform routine cash handling, and recordkeeping functions at a Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill.    Essential functions are: weighs and inspects refuse brought to the Solid Waste Sanitary Landfill by private operators; collects disposal fees at landfill gate and performs other routine cash handling duties. Employee reports to the Assistant Solid Waste Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED and one year of experience which regularly involved cashiering, retail or other public contact work.  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

Must be physically able to lift boxes or supplies up to 20 pounds unassisted.  Physical ability to climb up and off trucks. Ability to become a Certified Public Weigh master as issued by the Department of Agriculture and Industries.  A person with a disability which is covered by the ADA must be able to perform the work responsibilities of the job unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation.  The list of work responsibilities is to be used as a starting point to determine essential functions for a specific position at a specific location at a specific time.  The ADA was intended to be applied on a case-by-case basis with the understanding that one position may differ from another similar position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in a small area at the landfill entrance throughout most of the day and occasionally outdoors when inspecting vehicles.  Exposed to moving equipment, inclement weather conditions, dust, fumes, odors and materials common to the collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste, and recyclable materials. Must be willing to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
