Nature of Work

This is professional legal work in the issuing and recording of arrest warrants, in the granting of bail and in the receiving of guilty pleas in minor traffic cases. Employees in this class have complete responsibility for the warrant, bail and pleading processes with extreme varied and high volume of complaints from both citizens and law enforcement officials. Work in this class requires supervisory responsibility over persons engaged full-time in issuing warrants and/or other court clerical personnel. Employees assist lower level warrant office personnel in the more serious and complex complaints and rarely request assistance from outside sources. Work requires a considerable knowledge of the state criminal code and a high degree of the independent judgment. Employees at this level have gained a high degree of expertise through training and experience. This classification reports to the Municipal Court Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D  and five (5) years of experience as a magistrate or in law enforcement or in the legal field, including two (2) or more years of supervisory experience.  Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
