Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the fixed asset inventory system.  Work involves making decisions concerning stocking and issuing of office supplies, tires, materials and supplies used in office, fleet management, and general maintenance work.  The essential functions are: plans and oversees the acquisition, receipt, storage and proper distribution and issuance of items; supervises full time employees; oversees the process for sale or transfer of all surplus properties; and maintains accurate records and files to include inventory records. Work is performed with general supervision provided by the Purchasing Agent.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent and five years of experience in warehouse facility operations to include, the proper disposal of surplus items, acquisition, receipt, storage, distribution and issuance of a wide variety of materials, supplies and equipment to include office, automotive and off-road heavy equipment and supplies.  A minimum of two of the five years experience as a lead person overseeing or directing warehouse operations is required.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record for the last three years.  Must be bondable and insurable by the insurance carrier of the City of Montgomery. Must be willing to work nights, weekends or holidays as needed to fill orders during natural disasters or adverse weather conditions.  Must be willing to wear safety equipment such as back braces, gloves, goggles and safety shoes while performing work tasks in the warehouse area.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to tolerate working under difficult conditions in inclement weather to include extreme heat and cold. Must be able to stoop, climb, walk, bend, run and crawl as needed to climb ladders while inspecting storage of items, rotation of stock, or to fill orders and to lift or move items weighing up to 85 pounds as needed to receive, distribute or inventory items.
