Main Purpose of Job

Provide support for the proper operation and maintenance of UHF television transmitters located at the WWPB and WGPT transmitter sites to comply with FCC rules and regulations and to meet all performance criteria for quality reception.  Support the Transmitter Supervisor in the repair and preventive maintenance of high-power UHF television transmitters and ancillary equipment, HVAC equipment, backup AC power systems, transmitter remote control equipment, Emergency Alert System equipment, microwave distribution equipment, and television test and measurement systems.  This position requires on-call responsibilities during nights, weekend and holidays.  

POSITION DUTIES

  • Locates defects such as loose connections, broken wires, or burned out components, using schematic diagrams and test equipment.
  • Inspects wiring and soldering, and performs repairs, using appropriate repair equipment and diagrams.
  • Tests transmission systems for power output, frequency, and calibration, using appropriate equipment.
  • Replaces defective components such as capacitors, resistors, semiconductors, and integrated circuits.
  • Test signal quality for distortion and fidelity using appropriate equipment. *  Monitors equipment to detect flaws in transmission and makes necessary and appropriate adjustment.
  • Removes and replaces defective equipment.
  • Adjusts receivers for maximum sensitivity and adjusts transmitters for maximum output. 
  • Installs, tests, modifies, and repairs computer network system.
  • Tests and maintains emergency transmitter to ensure readiness.
  • Prepares and maintains maintenance logs and data sheets.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and parts and completes necessary inventory paperwork.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary for the success of the division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associates degree in electronics or electrical engineering.

Experience: Two years transmitter service experience.

Notes: Experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the associates degree

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

FCC General Radio Operators License (GROL) and/or SBE Certified Broadcast Television Engineer (CBTE) certification is strongly desired.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees without the FCC license agree to work toward obtaining the license during their first year of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position may require flexible work schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.  This position may require working outside in unfavorable weather conditions.
