LOCATION OF POSITION

350 Rowe Blvd.

Annapolis, MD 21401

Main Purpose of Job

This position is for an intern to serve as staff researcher for the Maryland State Archives project, Finding the Maryland 400. The project examines the military and peacetime careers of members of the First Maryland Regiment during the American Revolution. These men were Maryland's first war heroes, the men who held off the British at the Battle of Brooklyn (sometimes called the Battle of Long Island) in 1776 and allowed the rest of the Continental Army to escape.

The incumbent will research and write biographies of these soldiers to be published online, utilizing a wide range of primary and secondary sources. Biographies will explore soldiers' military service, as well as their lives before and after the war, and place them into historical context. Incumbent will also maintain and regularly update the project's research blog with posts about the project, biographical subjects, and historical topics.

This is a grant-funded, 35 hours per week position, which will last approximately six months. There is the potential for additional funding which will extend the position.
