Main Purpose of Job

To ensure the application of federal and state laws, regulations and Division policy in determining the eligibility of individuals with disabilities for vocational rehabilitation services and to plan and implement vocational rehabilitation services to assist those individuals maintain, prepare for and obtain gainful employment consistent with their skills, capacities and vocational choices within a reasonable period of time as defined within Individualized Plans for Employment.

POSITION DUTIES

Assists persons with disabilities in preparing for or obtaining employment; determines eligibility for vocational services; provides individual career counseling to people with disabilities; reviews medical, psychological, and vocational data to evaluate the nature and extent of the disability; coordinates and provides services to eligible individuals necessary to accommodate their disabilities and obtain employment; obtains services from other community agencies for people with disabilities; and provides job placement, post-employment, and follows-up services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: Level I – Professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is preferred. Level II - Two year(s) of experience in a behavioral or social science related field is required; a Master’s Degree in a Behavioral or Social Science related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: principles, procedures and regulations involved in providing vocational rehabilitation services; vocational counseling, interviewing and evaluation procedures; relationship between functional limitations of disabilities and employment goals; facilitation of services and practices relating to job search and employer outreach activities with community rehabilitation programs and social security benefits. Ability to: communicate effectively; plan and organize assigned work and meet established performance standards; coordinate and deliver multidisciplinary services required to support rehabilitation programs; analyze and interpret medical, psychological, and vocational reports; establish and maintain appropriate relationships with consumers, family members, employers, representatives of public and private organizations, community providers of rehabilitation services, general public, and government officials. 

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
