Main Purpose of Job

This position provides technical support to the Maryland's Public Safety Interoperability Network (PSInet) utilized for mission critical voice communications. The duties include writing and modifying; Cisco switch configurations, Cisco router configurations ,Cisco Firewall configurations and Cisco wireless device configuration. In addition is responsible for daily monitoring and troubleshooting network performance, maintenance issues and network failures. This position will act as a local technical resource for the EMS Technician staff in Baltimore but has statewide responsibilities. This position will perform facility surveys in conjunction with planned PSInet expansion. This position will work directly for the Director of Communications Engineering Services and in cooperation with the Director of Maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems or other information technology related field, to include course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the required education.

4. Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for a high school education: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following:

Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) with a minimum of 2 years of hands on experience working with Cisco routers and Cisco switches

Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) with a minimum of 2 years of hands on experience working with Cisco routers and Cisco switches

Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) with an emphasis on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) with a minimum of 2 years of hands on experience working with Cisco routers and Cisco switches

Proven proficiency with troubleshooting Wide Area Networks (WAN) utilizing dedicated network software tools and appliances such as: Wireshark, WhatsUpGold, JDSU RFC2544 testers, Fluke Networks LAN test sets, and Microsoft windows tools, UNIX tool, etc.

Cisco certification with Cisco Unified Call Manager training with a minimum of 2 years of hands on experience

A thorough working knowledge of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol suite

A minimum of 2 years of proven experience working in the field on installing, programming and configuring Cisco routers and Cisco switches including installation of power, T1 and Ethernet connectivity

Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) on Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) with a minimum of 2 years hands on experience

Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) on Terminal Access Controller Access Control System (TACACS) with a minimum of 2 years hands on experience
