This position conducts audits and compliance inspections within the Maryland State Police, or on outside agencies as directed by the Secretary, according to established audit standards and guidelines. The position also completes analysis of all Decentralized Line Inspection programs maintaining corresponding files. The position assists the Internal Auditor Program Supervisor with conducting research and analysis for corrective actions to be taken on each finding of non-compliance in an Office of Legislative Auditors audit. It also offers assistance to the Internal Auditor Program Supervisor with the day to day operation of the Inspection and Compliance Division.

Education:  Possession of a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience:  Three years of experience conducting financial and operational internal audits that include elements for finance and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program results.

Notes:

1. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a master’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for one year of auditing experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

2.  Candidate is a Certified Fraud Examiner through the Certified Fraud Examiner's Association

3.  Candidate is a current or former auditor within Maryland State government

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Candidates will be subject to an initial drug screen and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before appointment can be made.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You may be asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  The supplemental questionnaire may be used as part of the rating process.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category for a period of at least one year.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.
