Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Director for the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Management within the Anne Arundel County Department of Health. This position provides clinical nursing supervision for assigned Bureau programs and assists the Director in oversight of a staff of approximately 82 professional, managerial, clerical, and service personnel and an annual budget of over seven million dollars.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A master’s degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of experience as a community health nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity or two years of experience as a community health nurse and two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity as a registered nurse.

Notes:

1. A bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field and four years of experience as a community health nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  A copy of your current license or license verification must accompany your application.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland, and their driving records will be subject to investigation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform essential job functions.

2. Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
