Main Purpose of Job

All four positions are required to respond to public health emergencies and to be part of an inclement weather essential personnel rotation. Some program activities may necessitate working before or after normal business hours or on a weekend.

Coordinator Special Programs II, HS (CAREAPP)-1 position
This position provides proactive support to the supervising Community Health Educator IV and Director in the Bureau of Health Promotion, for the coordination of program development, implementation and management of specific community-based programs initiated by Howard County Health Department (HCHD) to address population health, such as CAREAPP (Community Access to Resources through Enhanced technology Applications for Providers and Public). The work includes coordination and active management of community health planning, training and education, data sharing, and quality improvement for the specific programs. The work may also involve other organization duties as delegated by the Health Officer. Employees in this classification may supervise lower-level support staff.

Coordinator of Special Programs II, HS (Workplace Wellness Coordinator)-1 position
This position coordinates and implements Howard County Health Department's (HCHD) workplace wellness program and the Healthiest Maryland Business (HMB) program in the central region (Howard, Harford, Carroll, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel counties). This includes the coordination of program development, implementation and management of DHMH work-based initiatives to address physical and emotional wellness in Howard County Health Department (HCHD) and other designated central-region work sites. The work includes coordination and active management of CDC-derived group-specific health planning, training and education, data sharing, and quality imporvement of specific programs.

Coordinator Special Programs II, HS (LHIC Coordinator)-2 positions
This position provides support to the content-oriented workgroups of the Local Health Improvement Coalition (LHIC) as well as the LHIC Director and LHIC Program Manager. The work includes logistical coordination of work activities, project planning and management, community health planning research, and project implementation for the designated LHIC workgroups.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in health services, one year of which must have been in professional clinical or administrative work in health or medical services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions.

Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable qualifications:
-College or Graduate School degree in Public Health, Health Education or Health-related field
-Experience working with diverse groups of health-related staff or community-based organization/partners
-Managing multiple projects

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
