Main Purpose of Job

Food Administrator II encompasses the managerial levels of work in the food service program of a dietary department at a State facility, hospital or residential institution. The position involves managing and directing food service programs that include menu planning, procuring food and the preparing and serving of meals. 

 

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Juvenile Services currently has a vacancy for Food Administrator II located at the Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School in Baltimore County, MD.  The position will act as a program director and administrator for all activities of the food service operation at the Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School.  The position supports the mission of the agency by providing safe, nutritious, and appetizing meals and snacks for youth housed at the Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

 Experience: One year (I), two years (II), four years (III), and five years (IV) of experience managing large-scale food service operations in an institutional, commercial, industrial or similar organization.

 Notes:

 1. Additional experience supervising in a large-scale food service operation may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Food Services Officers classifications or Food Services Manager and Services Officer specialty codes in the food service management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in food production or service in an institutional setting such as hospitals, nursing homes, universities or correctional facilities.

2. Possession of a Degree in nutritional care, institutional administration or related area.

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in, and therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.   This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.  

EXAMINATION PROCESS
