Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service- Annapolis, MD. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year. Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply at that time. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service, is currently accepting applications for an Office Supervisor in Annapolis, Maryland. The selected candidate will oversee the Commercial Harvest Reporting project within DNR Fisheries Service. This project is responsible for the accurate and timely entry of Maryland's commercial fishery harvest, charter boat harvest, and fish dealer reports which total over five thousand per month. The incumbent is charged with developing and maintaining efficient systems for all aspects of commercial fisheries data flow including: handling reports, entering data into computer data bases, conducting necessary QA/AC, and compiling data for the Fishery Dependent Data Analyst. The selected candidate oversees a commercial harvester reporting project where staff works on an individual level with commercial fishermen who have repeated errors in their harvest reports to resolve issues thereby ensuring consistent, high quality information. The incumbent oversees contracts with the Maryland Correctional facility and external printing companies to ensure timely and competent completion of deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience performing clerical duties.  

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the administrative support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience must have included commercial fisheries data entry or biological data entry.

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access) is preferred.

Experience entering data into, and querying data from, relational databases is preferred.

Supervisory experience is preferred.
