Introduction

This is a twelve month position in the front office of the Frederick Campus of the Maryland School for the Deaf.

Main Purpose of Job

Provide direct administrative support to the Dean of Student Affairs in the performance of their campus-wide duties and responsibilities, and represent them in daily interactions with staff, students, parents, visitors, and other agencies.

POSITION DUTIES

This position will provide support to the Office of Dean of Student Affairs.  The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with all of the events including but not limited to Homecoming, Graduation, and Open Houses.  Manage the Master Calendar, Media Consent forms, and be responsible for weekly communication with families and staff.  The secretary is responsible to take and distribute the minutes of Frederick Campus Administration Team/Operations meetings, reserve rooms and facilities, and communicate the information with the Frederick Community.  The secretary will provide clerical support to the Director of Student Achievement with regards to Teacher Certifications.  May be asked to assume other duties as assigned by Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Student Achievement, and School Principal.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Able to carry a conversation in American Sign Language.

Able to use a video phone.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal, or work processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
