Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to develop, implement, and evaluate community health education projects and materials for the Worcester County Health Department (WCHD). This position will assist in implementing chronic disease prevention program strategies for adults and organizing and/or conducting training programs for community members and partners. This position is essential for protecting and preserving public health and public safety and is considered essential public health personnel. This may result in special deployment during emergencies and/or crisis, subject to weekend and evening hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, or Health Science.

Experience: One year of experience planning, developing, implementing, and promoting health education projects.

Notes:

1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects may be substituted for the required education and experience. **Official or unofficial transcripts must be attached with your completed application.**

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
