Introduction

This is an agency specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police. Applicants will be placed on an eligible list for one year and may be considered for future vacancies within this classification as they occur within that timeframe.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Stevensville, MD (Queen Anne's County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police, Support Services Bureau, in Stevensville, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Marine Engine Technician II. This position is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and carrying out all technical maintenance needed to keep the MNRP fleet and associated equipment operating in a safe and good condition with a high state of readiness. Employees in this classification may work shifts, which include weekends and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade and successful completion of the Outboard Marine Corporation or equivalent factory sponsored training course on marine engines.

Experience: Five years experience in the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, three years of which must involve the repair of marine inboard and outboard engines and related maritime systems.

Note:

1.  Applicants may substitute a vocational/technical high school education in the curriculum of marine or automotive engine repair for up to two years of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in engineman classification or engineman specialty codes in the vessel field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

Willingness and ability to drive long distances for repair work is preferred.

Prior experience completing service work in the field is preferred.

Experience repairing Evinrude Outboard engines and Kohler generators is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle and require the possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee may be required to attend special training courses in marine engine mechanics and related areas of work in the interest of acquiring the required skills and keeping abreast of technological changes.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
