Introduction

This is a Part-Time contractual position consisting of 40 hours every two weeks.  The schedule rotates each week from Monday, Wednesday and Friday one week to Tuesday and Thursday the next week then repeats itself.  Each workday is from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with 1/2 hour for lunch.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to accurately perform data entry duties in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) of the Maryland State Police.

POSITION DUTIES

The position enters data from Transportation Inspection Reports into the CVED Safetynet Program as well as entering and certifying all incoming inspection reports sent in by carriers for compliance.  In addition, the position performs general clerical duties such as opening mail, filing, retrieving records and answering telephones.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One year of experience keying large amounts of alpha, numeric or symbolic data from source documents into a computer or onto magnetic tape or disk according to a production schedule.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the clerical support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to keyboard at forty words per minute on a standard keyboard or one hundred keystrokes per minute on data entry equipment.

2. Employees in this classification must meet production standards established by the employing agency.

3. Candidates will be subject to an initial drug screen and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination.  A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection for this process will involve a review of each application. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list as a QUALIFIED candidate.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.
