The Maryland Public Service Commission has a position available for a PSC Regulatory Economist in the Electricity Division.

Main Purpose of Job

This is a junior level Economist whose purpose is to provide testimony, prepare comments, perform analyses, prepare reports, answer inquiries, and develop positions on issues relating to Maryland electric utility industry, monitoring the development of competitive electric and gas markets and the economics of regulation or to support other more senior division employees as they carry out these tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor's degree in Economics, Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics or Mathematics from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Note:  1. Additional experience performing utility, energy policy, economic or econometrically based analysis may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a commissioned officer in any of the field areas noted in the education section above.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Experience in rate design, utility cost of service studies, cost of capital analysis, and electric power industry knowledge is desired.

A Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Finance, Physics, Statistics or Mathematics from an accredited college or university is preferred.

Coursework in econometric analysis, electrical power engineering applied mathematics and statistics, or related technical fields of study is also a plus.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
