Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Services, is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Grounds Supervisor in Oxford, Maryland. The selected candidate will be responsible for grounds maintenance on an 11 acre laboratory facility. Duties include maintenance of grounds, snow removal, special projects and other maintenance related tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining all tools and equipment, determining cost of material and length of time to complete projects, maintaining records, assigning work schedules and performing necessary tasks to include mowing, weeding, mulching, painting, dock and pond maintenance and other related duties. The selected candidate will be responsible for the supervision and training of other workers as appropriate and ensure compliance of work and safety standards.

Note: This position might require some weekend work and/or variable hours to include occasionally strenuous activity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Three (3) years experience in truck or flower gardening, in the care and maintenance of grounds and lawns, landscaping, horticultural or nursery work.

Note:

Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to 2 years of the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
