Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide locksmith services with specific responsibility for security throughout the complex. The position will inspect, repair, make alterations, installation and keying of locks as well as the maintenance of locks, locking systems, proximity systems, door closure and locking devices on all types of doors and equipment throughout the Inner Harbor Complex buildings and grounds.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Setup master keying system and maintain key, access and combination records on all security and system equipment; provide information and take appropriate actions to comply with DGS building and safety regulations; prepare written reports for documenting activities and conveying information; request equipment and supplies for maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete installation and repairs; participate in meetings, workshops, training and seminars for conveying and gathering information to perform job functions.
  • Review, approve and complete work requests; inform personnel of procedures and policies required for work orders and services; prepares cost estimates of maintenance and construction projects and make purchasing recommendations; prepares requisitions for equipment, materials and supplies; rekeys locks and changes combination and repair a variety of items, systems and components to ensure a safe working environment; maintains a preventative maintenance program.
  • Inspect, diagnose and correct problems; resolve immediate operational and or safety concerns; fabricate unique locks and locking devices for meeting specialty needs; coordinates with building managers and other trades for completing projects and work orders; install locking systems; responds to emergency situations during or after hours.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Two years of experience involving installing, maintaining and repairing locks.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Locksmith classifications or Locksmith specialty codes in the Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to applicants willing to work in Baltimore City.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Some positions may require the ability to operate motor vehicles. A motor vehicle operators license may be required before appointment to these positions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this class must be available for call at anytime.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

Eligible list may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

You MUST possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – Verification will be completed by the appointing authority.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination.  Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week.  You must include on your application the time spent on such activity.  You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.  

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
