Main Purpose of Job
This is a professional position responsible for providing psychological services to students enrolled in Juvenile Services Education program sites in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Public Law 105-17.
POSITION DUTIES
Administers psychological and educational tests and interprets assessment results; provides counseling services to students and their parents; participates in inter-disciplinary meetings to evaluate and discuss the diagnosis, etiology, and treatment of students; assists in planning programs that meet the special needs of students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of or eligible for a Maryland School Psychologist Certificate. Certification eligibility requirements include: A Master’s Degree in Psychology, Education, or Human Development with 60 graduate hours of course work in the five required subject areas (Psychological and Educational Foundations, Interventions and Assessments, Statistics and Research Methodologies, and School Psychology) and completion of an approved School Psychology Internship Program or two years of successful experience providing psychological services to students in an education setting under the direction of an individual certified as a school psychologist.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the Psychological concepts and special education eligibility criteria under IDEA; knowledge of appropriate psychological services; skill in interpreting assessment results as they apply to Individualized Educational Programs; ability to make sound recommendations and decisions; ability to work effectively with other professional and residential security staff.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations/Background Checks as a routine procedure for all employees required to work in State Juvenile Services Facilities. Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act is required. If, once employed, it is determined that the incumbent does not qualify for at least a Conditional Certificate, the incumbent's employment will be terminated. Also, failure to obtain and maintain a Maryland School Psychologist Certificate will be the basis for termination of employment.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
